Hockey’s cruel vision: we work long, earn less and stay poor

TREASURER Joe Hockey’s claim that politicians like him, earning hundreds of thousands of dollars, along with other well-off Australians, will share equally in the pain he is inflicting in this year’s budget is wafer thin and does not stand up to scrutiny.

Everything this government has done since its election last year has resulted in cuts falling more heavily on Australia’s low and middle income earners than elsewhere.

Despite My Hockey’s attempts to own the phrase “heavy lifting”, the reality is that the average Australian has been doing more than their fair share of the heavy lifting for some time.
